We got on a cruise ship and hit four of the islands, Maui, Oahu, Hawaii, and Kawaii. Beautiful place, very expensive.

You'll see waterfalls, lava cliffs, a volcano and lava pouring into the ocean, homes that have been taken by the lava, lot's of other stuff. I can't remember how to spell half the names of the places we went to, so the naration is limited.

You can tour the farms where they still tap the trees and make the syrup. Lots of other stuff to do in the area also.

Monterey is kind of the center of things going on. The little town is pretty much...........dead the rest of the year, but in March, it gets pretty crowded.

New rules from the Transportation and Security Administration that take effect on January 1 ban travelers from carrying loose lithium batteries in checked baggage. Passengers are allowed to pack two spare batteries in their carry-on bag, as long as they're in clear plastic baggies.

Renting a car and traveling is the way to go. Fly out and get a nice car and go. We got a small SUV so we could throw it in 4WD if needed. We decided we needed a bigger one for all the baggage after a while. I'm not talking about the maps you buy in service stations. While these maps may get you from one general area to another, they just don't cut it when you're out in the middle of nowhere and looking for that landmark you want to see.

Nearby Petersburg there are a lot of things to see and do. We stay in a cabin that sits on a fork of the Potomac. There's some really wild country in the area.

The little town of Chincoteague is unlike anywhere else in Va. The Assateague lighthouse is my favorite and the ponies are worth a look. We went in off season so there weren't any crowds.

I'm not sure that this little place ever gets crowded. It's got the slow pace that I like for a vacation.
